Obituary for Clarence “Barnie” Parker PARKER, Clarence E. “Barnie” Age 83, of Odessa, NY passed away after a long illness, Saturday, November 3, 2018 while a resident of Seneca View Skilled Nursing Facility, in Montour Falls, NY. He was born January 29, 1935, in Barre Center, NY. He graduated from Albion HS in 1952 and received degrees from Cornell University and SUNY Cortland.

He also served in the US Army from 1959 to 1961. Barnie lived in North Collins, Addison, Hilton, and Corning before settling into a long and rich life in Odessa, NY where was known as a top-notch barber, a kind and nurturing elementary school teacher, a wrestling coach, and even an occasional school bus driver. He served as a village trustee for many years and also on the Board of Assessment Review for the Town of Catharine.

He was a member of the Moose Club and the VFW and was a very active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Catharine, NY. Above all, Barnie was known as a great friend to many, always with a bright smile & and quick wit. Barnie was preceded in death by his mother & father, Frances & Edward Parker, his wife, Elizabeth “Cis” (née Thomas) Parker, & too many close friends to count.

He is survived by his brother Henry Parker; sister Cheryl (Skee) Denson; daughter, Margaret (Kevin) Wager; son, Edward “Andy” Parker; grandchildren, Ryan (Catrina Turner) DeBruin and Lauren Wager; along with cousins, nieces, & nephews. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Barnie’s rich legacy in their own way while awaiting a celebration of life to be announced at a future date. Burial in Highland Cemetery, Catharine, NY will be done at the family’s convenience.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Memorial Fund of St. Johns’ Episcopal Church, 5199 County Road 14, Odessa, NY 14869, moosecharities.org, heroes. vfw.org, or the O.M.C.S. Sports or Fine Arts Boosters.
