Claudia’s Obituary Family and friends are mourning the passing of their beloved daughter, sister and kindred-soul, Claudia J. (Carr) Lane. Claudia was born August 4, 1961 and spent her childhood years in Peabody, West Springfield and Shrewsbury, graduating in 1979 from Shrewsbury High School. She was the youngest of five children born to Jim and Mary Jane (Fontaine) Carr.

Claudia’s mom and older siblings, Janet Clark, Daniel Carr, Linda Tucker and Timothy Carr are saddened by the loss of their “baby sister”. Claudia’s father pre-deceased her in March 2017. As a child, Claudia enjoyed summer vacations at their cottage at Big Island Pond in Derry, NH with her family and many cousins.

Claudia completed a two-year technical program in Electric Power Technology at Worcester Industrial Technical Institute in 1981. Claudia was hired as part of the New England Telephone and Telegraph’s “Class of 1987”. Over the course of her 25-year career, she witnessed the evolution of her employer from New England Telephone, to NYNWX, to Bell Atlantic and finally, to Verizon.

Claudia was an installer in the Central Office Equipment Installation department and was a loyal member of the IBEW 2325 Union. She retired from Verizon in 2012. Claudia married Jonathan P. (“Jock”) Lane in 1989 and they resided together in Westminster with their horse, dogs and other assorted pets until Jock’s passing in 2009.

During Jock’s long battle with cancer, Claudia took time off from work to be Jock’s primary caregiver. Claudia is a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Westminster VFW post, volunteering her time serving holiday meals to the homeless and giving of herself in a myriad of ways. She is well known and loved as a generous, compassionate and thoughtful friend.

It was through the VFW that Claudia met her current companion, and best friend, Paul Farmer. For the past several years, Paul and Claudia have been enjoying retired life socializing with a group of close friends. Claudia’s interests and hobbies included playing the clarinet, guitar and keyboard.

She loved the outdoors and spent countless hours swimming in her pond, riding her horse and walking through the woods with her dogs, Pepper and Bear. In addition to her mother and siblings, Claudia leaves her Brothers-in-Law, Steve Clark and Art Tucker and her Sisters-In-Law, Denise Carr and Maureen Carr and many well-loved extended family members including aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Claudia especially valued her longtime relationship with the extended Lane family, including Betsy, Frederic, Martha, David, Alfreda, Mary Louise, Marguerite, Stephen, and Suzanne.

Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, from the Westminster Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes. 123 Main Street, Westminster, with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Edward the Confessor Church, 10 Church St. Westminster, MA 01473. A calling hour will be held in the funeral home from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral.

Burial will be at a later date in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Westminster, MA John F. Masciarelli, Walter C. Taylor and James M. Hebert, funeral directors.
