Graveside Services for Mrs. Cletus O. Ledbetter, 89, of Ardmore, Oklahoma will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 2:00 p. m. at the Condon Grove Cemetery Pavilion with Stuart Bailey officiating. Mrs. Ledbetter passed away on November 29, 2018 at the Elmbrook Nursing Home in Ardmore. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Cletus Ophelia (Ragan) Rowland Ledbetter was born on July 9, 1929 on the family farm in Milburn, Oklahoma to Lester Ragan and Gertrude (Robbins) Ragan. She was the second of four children. She graduated from Milburn High School in 1946 and later married Bay Rowland that same year.
Together they had a son, Larry D. Rowland on February 17, 1948. Unexpectedly, Cletus lost her husband on November 11, 1949. She decided to move home to her parents to get help raising her son, and attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University with her younger brother, Ralph Ragan.
She graduated from Southeastern in 1953, finishing in 3 years. She taught 3rd grade for many years. She was teaching in Shawnee, Oklahoma when she married R. P. Ledbetter in 1978.
They resided in Maud, Oklahoma on a horse ranch where Paul raised quarter horses. They enjoyed riding horses and taking long walks on the property. R. P. and Cletus were married until his death in January of 1985.
She retired after giving 39 years to teaching. Cletus returned to Tishomingo where she enjoyed being a member of the Westside Church of Christ, drinking coffee with her sister, Venita, at Cousins and the Dairy Queen, attending singings on weekends, taking her sister-in-law, Joye Ragan to eat at the Eagle’s Nest in Milburn and cooking supper for her son and grandchildren. She continued to work part-time in education until the age of 80.
After strong encouragement from her granddaughter, she moved in with her family in Ardmore. For 5 years, she enjoyed attending sporting events of her great-grandchildren, cooking for her family and attending the McLish Church of Christ. In addition to her beloved parents and two husbands, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Ruth Carter, and Venita Coffee, sister-in-law, Joye Ragan; nephews, Terry Ragan, Mondell Chaney, and Wendell Carter; great-nephews, Colton Ragan and Michael Carter.
Survivors include, her beloved brother, Ralph Ragan; her only son, Larry Rowland; granddaughters, Lori Black, Evi Coburn and Tonya Rowland; grandsons, Bay and David Rowland; great-granddaughters, Lesli Brookshire, Kinsey Black and Cali Rowland; great-grandsons, Breyden Brookshire and Dillon Rowland; her favorite niece, Joni Jeter; great-nephews, Callen Ragan, Gage and Grant Jeter; great-nieces, Lindsay McCarter, Jessica Tynes and Candi Morgan; and her precious great-great-granddaughter, Jacelin Gail; as well as, numerous other family and friends. Pallbearers for the service will be: John Black, Bay Rowland, Breyden Brookshire, Callen Ragan, Grant Jeter and Chandler Smith. Honorary Bearers will be: Larry Rowland, Gage Jeter and Dillon Rowland.
