Cole Elwood Maughan, 36, returned to the loving arms of his Father in Heaven and many family members and friends on October 4, 2018. Cole was born on December 8, 1981, in Logan, Utah, to Mitch and Molly Maughan of Wellsville. He attended Wellsville Elementary, Spring Creek Middle School, Willow Valley Middle School, South Cache Freshman Center and graduated from Mountain Crest High School in 2000.

While in high school Cole excelled in baseball and was a member of the Mountain Crest… Read More » State Championship team in 1999 and was named to the All-State baseball team in 2000. He received a baseball scholarship to the College of Eastern Utah. Cole was extremely friendly and outgoing.

He never saw anyone he knew that he didn’t greet with a smile and a big hello. He was loving and giving and generous to anyone in need. He would do anything he could for you if you needed help.

He was a fun person to do anything with, including just watching a movie or sporting event on TV because of his great sense of humor. He could always make you laugh. When Cole was home the house was filled with noise and confusion because he always teasing and playing with his siblings or nephews.

Cole loved the outdoors. He had a special love for Yellowstone National Park, where he loved to watch wildlife, especially bears, and taking photos. He enjoyed hunting, fly fishing, horseback riding and sports, especially golf.

He loved tinkering with and riding “sleds” throughout the winter months. He also loved grabbing up any old “treasure”, old trucks in particular, and fixing them up. He enjoyed doing these activities with family and friends.

He was always teaching and challenging himself and others, especially his siblings and nephews, to reach the next level. Cole was a hard worker and because of his great love of the outdoors that was where he not only wanted to play but also work. He spent many years working with his dad, brother, uncles and cousins on the family farm.

After high school Cole started working in construction and concrete and had his own concrete company. He later went to work in the oil fields in Wyoming and North Dakota and was a crew supervisor for Haliburton Oil. He took great pride in his work and always wanted to show you what he had been doing, whether it was something he built, a sidewalk he poured with a special design or a picture message from the oil field of a massive drilling project.

Cole is survived by his parents, siblings Melanie (Seth) Francis and Kade Maughan, nephews Daxton and Jase and niece Avrie, grandparents Marshall and Coralie Maughan, all of Wellsville. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Nyman Funeral Home. A viewing will be held for family and close friends from 10 am to 11:30 am on Wednesday, October 10th at Nyman Funeral home located at 753 South 100 East, Logan.

A graveside service will follow at 12:00 noon at the Wellsville City Cemetery, Condolences and Memories can be shared with the family online at www. NymanFH.com Cole, we will all miss you so much.
