Dale Brown, 88, of Grundy Center, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 11, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev.

Inurnment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center with graveside military honors conducted by the American Legion Post #349 and the AMVETS Post #17 both of Grundy Center. Clarence Dale Brown, son of Clarence and Gladys (Cone) Brown was born on April 20, 1930 at his parent’s home southwest of Grundy Center.

He received his education from the Grundy Center Community Schools where he graduated with the class of 1948. During the Korean War, Dale honorably served in the United States Army where he was awarded a Bronze Star. Following his discharge, Dale attended Iowa State University for two years.

Dale farmed for many years with his father and continued farming northeast of Grundy Center until retiring in 1995. Before he was married, Dale spent many winters in Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico after the farming season was completed. On February 25, 1965 Dale married Colleen Lowery at Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

The couple loved to travel throughout the country in their early married life. Dale loved farming. He also was a handyman who enjoyed building and remodeling anything.

Survivors include his loving wife, Colleen Brown of Grundy Center; children, Orrin (Terri) Brown of Winona, MN; Tim (Tami) Brown of Woodbridge, VA; Vicki (Brett) Austin of Plymouth, IA; Tom (Paula) Brown of Decorah, IA; his 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his infant son, James Patrick Brown; and several uncles and their wives. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, Grundy County Memorial Hospital or First Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center.
