Dale Jay Young September 10, 1936 – February 26, 2019 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Dale Jay Young, son of Lester Lee Young and Velna Elfa (Gillilan) Young, was born September 10, 1936 in Shattuck, OK and passed from this life February 26, 2019 in Santa Maria, CA at the age of 82. Dale grew up in the Arnett, OK community and at the age of 17 he was baptized and became a member of the First Baptist Church in Arnett. He attended grade school and graduated with the class of 1954 from Arnett High School.
On December 24, 1957, Dale was united in marriage to Jerry Ralls at the First Baptist Church in Arnett, OK. Three daughters, Vicki Gail, Charlotte Kay and Michelle Lynn blessed their home. In August of 1958 Dale joined the United States Air Force, continued his education and travelled the world.
Over the years the family resided overseas in Germany, Guam, Thailand and England and stateside in Arizona, Illinois, Washington, California and Nevada. The honors and awards he received during his career were extensive and included the following: Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf cluster, Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with six oak leaf clusters, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Air Force Noncommissioned Officer Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon with oak leaf cluster, Air Force Service medal, Air Force Overseas Service Long Tour ribbon, Air Force Organizational Excellence Award, Air Force Outstanding Unit award and the Humanitarian Service medal. In 1987 while living in Las Vegas, Nevada, Dale retired from his 29 year career as commissary director with the United States Air Force.
He had attained the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. Following retirement and relocating to California, Dale joined the U.S. Civil Service and was the Commissary Director 14 years. His special interest and hobbies were woodworking, gardening, painting, reading, puzzles, crochet and traveling.
Dale was devoted to his family and his country. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Velna Young, his daughter, Vicki Gail and three brothers, Albert, Clyde and Alfred. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jerry Young of Santa Maria, CA.
, his daughters, Charlotte Kay Easley & husband Rob of Sumpter, SC and Michelle Lynn Young and husband Robert Wilson of Seattle, WA. One sister, Zelma Smith of Valley Center, KS. one grandchild Megan Easley-Walsh and husband Stephan of Ireland, other relatives and a host of friends.
