NAUGATUCK – Daniel S. Warner, 88, husband of Helen (Shipkosky) Warner, died suddenly and unexpectedly, Wednesday, September 19, 2018. Mr. Warner was born on May 14, 1930, in Scranton, PA, son of the late Stanley and Stella (Golicki) Warner. He graduated from West Scranton High School and as a veteran of the Korean War, he was very proud of serving the country he loved.
After moving to Naugatuck, he worked at Pratt & Whitney and subsequently, as a design draftsman at Lewis Engineering until his retirement. An avid baseball player and golfer, he played Twilight League softball for many years before taking up golf, nailing a hole in one three times. Shortly after his retirement, he began working at Hop Brook Golf Course in Naugatuck, where he could be found cheerfully greeting the many members and the public, and where he continued to work up until his death.
Dan was a truly unique force of nature with an upbeat attitude, a big laugh, and love in his heart for those lucky enough to have met him. From his loyalty to the New York Mets and Pittsburgh Steelers, to his dry sense of humor, he loved chatting with anyone about anything and made an impact everywhere he went. He was a devoted husband, loving father, brother, grandfather, and friend to many.
He was a dependable and wonderfully selfless man who never ran out of love to give. Besides his wife of 64 years, he is survived by his five daughters, Donna Warner of Naugatuck; Diane (Terry) Szczesiul of Naugatuck; Deborah (Vincent) Healy of Naugatuck; Carol (Joseph) Gallagher of West Hartford; and Cheryl (Travis) Schweizer of Simsbury; his brother, Lawrence Warner of Scranton, PA; nine grandchildren, including two sets of twins, Christine Healy, Kathryn and Nicole Healy, Kurtis Daniel Szczesiul, Jillian Gallagher, Daniel and Sarah Gallagher, Natalie Schweizer and Jack Schweizer; numerous nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Lily. His family and friends will forever miss his laughter, guidance and warm embrace.
You left us too quickly, “Poppie” – we all deeply miss you and will play catch together again soon. Funeral services will be held Monday September 24, 2018 at noon at Holy Saviour Church in Naugatuck. Friends may call to celebrate his life from 10:30 AM to the time of the service at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main Street, Naugatuck.
Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Scranton, PA. Contributions may be made to Holy Saviour Church Property Development Fund, 118 Prospect Street, Naugatuck, CT 06770.
