OBITUARY David Alden Burr January 31, 1938 – January 10, 2019 DAVID ALDEN BURR January 31, 1938 – January 10, 2019 David Alden Burr passed away peacefully on January 10, 2019, with his wife, Lynn, by his side. He joins his beloved son, Douglas, in Heaven. David was born in Visalia, California to Alden Hoyt Burr and Evelyn Edwards Burr.
He graduated from Mt. Whitney High School in 1956. David attended Menlo College and then University of Southern California, where he graduated with a degree in Advertising and Public Relations.
While he was in college, he joined the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity where he made many life-long friends. Shortly before graduating from college, he met the love of his life, Lynn Hoffman, on a blind date. They were married on August 10, 1963, and were blessed to be married for 55 years.
They were also blessed with two sons, Douglas and Robert, and four beautiful grandchildren. David became a licensed insurance broker and then a licensed real estate broker. He and his good friend, Tom Peltzer, formed Peltzer and Burr Real Estate Company and worked side-by-side for 30 successful years.
David was active in the community of Visalia. He was a member of the Visalia Rotary Club for 45 years, President of the Visalia Unified School Board, a member of the Tulare County Grand Jury, a member of the Visalia Citizens’ Advisory Committee, a Boy Scout leader, and a member of the Visalia Country Club. David’s favorite place on earth was the family cabin at Doyle Springs.
He and his family and friends spent many weekends enjoying the beauty of the mountains. He also loved golfing and especially enjoyed playing with a favorite foursome of good buddies. David is survived by his loving wife, Lynn, and his son, Robert, and wife, Sophia, as well as Doug’s wife, Trish.
He was so very proud of his grandchildren, Dylan, Madelyn, Brienna and Aiden. David’s love for his family and friends and for Visalia will be greatly missed, but his integrity and sense of humor will be remembered by everyone who knew him. A Celebration of David’s Life will be held at 11:00 am Friday, Feb.
1, 2019, at the Gateway Church of Visalia, 1100 S. Sowell, Visalia. David’s family would like to acknowledge and thank the wonderful doctors in Visalia who treated him, as well as the loving Hospice nurses and aides who cared for him.
