Eagle Scout, pilot, backyard astronomer, canoe builder, and musician, David Allen (Speedy) Entringer passed away peacefully from complications of Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson’s disease on November 26, 2018, at the Algoma Long Term Care Unit. After attending St. Norbert’s College, he studied electrical… Read More » engineering at DeVry in Chicago; subsequently, he attended further classes in Dayton, Ohio, and was employed for over thirty years with NCR Corporation as an electrical field engineer. Following his retirement from NCR, he established his own business selling, installing, and servicing satellite systems for residences and businesses. He also enjoyed serving as a bus driver for Luxemburg-Casco school district.
Dave, from a young age, had a love for the stars and the skies. He built his own telescope as a teenager, and longed to be an astronaut. While in Dayton, he used his spare time to obtain his pilot’s license, and was a wonderful leisure pilot.
Additionally, he adored riding his Honda Gold Wing from Key West, to Baton Rouge, to the mountains of Colorado, and beyond. Camping all the way was how he wished to travel. Following the death of his parents, Dave began a herculean task of renovating his childhood home on Fremont Street in Algoma which was built in 1903.
Using the skills learned from his dad, he did the vast majority of the work himself: carpentry, electrical, plumbing; the home is a testament to that artistry and expertise. Music was a paramount element in Dave’s life. He played saxophone with his parents in his early years for weddings and other gatherings; he was also a member of the Algoma Community Band for a number of years.
The Algoma High School Music Department is a recipient of his two treasured saxophones which are lovingly and gratefully being utilized. A very important part of Dave’s life was his devotion to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where he sang in the choir and served as a cantor. He truly lived and loved to serve St. Mary’s.
Boy Scouts played a major role in Dave’s life; he attained the Order of the Arrow, as well as Eagle Scout status. He taught archery at Big Bear Camp, and was a scoutmaster, a service of which he was so proud. Surviving Dave is his love, Nancy Jones McKay with whom he shared nineteen lovely years.
Additionally, he is survived by his and Nancy’s children: Theresa (Chris Smith), Little Chute, WI; David (Kim), Green Bay; Christine King, Pewaukee; Slater McKay (Kenissa) Stafford, VA; Rawls McKay, Ann Arbor, MI; Kathleen (Brian Koeser); and Barbara (Eric Wertzel). Further survivors include eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Dave also leaves many friends of his and Nancy’s in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Al and Rose Strnad, and his sister, Elaine Entringer Heim. The family will welcome visitors at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Algoma, Wisconsin at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, followed by Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at a later date at Trinity Episcopal Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
