David Allen Irwin, born on May 23, 1935 in Holland, Ohio, passed away at age 83 on January 23, 2019 in Bakersfield, California. Growing up on a small farm as the youngest of five boys, Dave developed an enduring work ethic and sense of restless ambition. After high school, Dave joined the Air Force as an aviation cadet, flying T-33 jets.

After the Air Force, he married Nancy Morgan in 1957 and the couple later had two sons, David and Steve. Dave joined Owens-Illinois Glass Company in 1965, eventually becoming the Production Manager of the firm’s Fairfield, California operation before retiring in 1986 to embark on a life of invention and entrepreneurship. He started Integrated Computer Products, building and selling computers during the early days of the PC era.

With his sons, he expanded the business and co-founded Precision Color Labs, a photography shop. Years later, after “retiring” a second time, he went on to start two new companies, one producing a self-coiling hose (“The Rebounder”) and the other selling Nancy’s hand-painted wood pieces and decorative pins. He also spent years traveling with Nancy in their motor home, learning the banjo, and pursuing his love of woodworking.

At the age of 73, he climbed back into the cockpit of a T-33 and once again experienced the thrills of his youth. In 2016, he and Nancy moved to Bakersfield, making their home next door to their son David and to enjoy their great-grandchildren. In December 2018, Dave and Nancy celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.

Dave is survived by his wife Nancy, his brother Bob, his sons and daughters-in-law, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 31 at 10:00 a.m. at the Rockville Cemetery Stone Chapel, 4219 Suisun Valley Rd, Fairfield, California. Graveside service for family members only to follow.

Flowers and donations are not necessary, although the family welcomes cards and remembrances.
