DAVID JULIUS BOLDT, age 87, of Rushmore, died Friday, March 1, 2019, at the Ecumen Meadows in Worthington. He was born April 16, 1931, in Little Rock Township, MN to William and Malvina (Pieper) Boldt. He grew up in rural Rushmore, and graduated from Worthington High School in 1948.

Dave married Mary Jane Funk on February 11, 1951, at the United Methodist Church in Worthington. The couple farmed together in rural Rushmore until Mary Jane’s death on April 21, 1997. Dave married Helen Van Roekel on June 5, 1999, in Sherburne, MN.

The couple lived in rural Rushmore and wintered in Apache Junction, AZ. In August of 2017, they moved to Ecumen Meadows in Worthington. Helen passed away on September 25, 2018, at Cottagewood Senior Communities in Mankato.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rushmore. He was also a member of Southwest High Flyers and served on several community boards, including the Adrian School Board. Dave also enjoyed many hobbies such as snowmobiling, stained glass, and singing; but his favorite was building and flying radio controlled model airplanes.

For twenty eight years, Dave hosted an annual “Flying Farmer Fun Fly” at his farm, attracting pilots and spectators from around the region. Dave is survived by his daughter, Deborah (Grant) Rykken, Lino Lakes; son, Charles (Jeannie) Boldt, Golden Valley; four grandchildren, Nicole (Norman) Lindsay, Jenny Boldt, Tovah (Matt) Marek, & Christian Rykken; four great-grandchildren, Owen & Greta Lindsay, and Eliana & Dane Marek; brother, Gordon (Lynn) Boldt, Shakopee; three step children, Sheryl (Dudley) Berger, St. Peter; Debra (Steven) Nordyke, Onalaska, WI; and Rick (Kathy) Van Roekel, New Ulm; seven step grandchildren; and eleven step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his two wives Mary Jane & Helen; and sister, Wilma.

Funeral will be Monday at 2 pm at the Dingmann Funeral Home, in Worthington, officiated by Pastor John Gale. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Rushmore.
