David’s Obituary Saturday, March 2nd, 2019 at 1pm Cheney United Methodist Church in Cheney, KS Officiating Funeral Service: Pastor Doug Hasty – Cheney United Methodist Speakers: Megan Sellers, Alan Hill, Ed Peabody, Rene Sellers, Tom Donnell, Final Resting Place: His cremated remains will be scattered at his farm property along the river and near his beloved deer feeders. He will also have a headstone and ashes at the Argonia Cemetery in Argonia, KS. David (Dave) Craig Sellers of Cheney, KS died Sunday February 24, 2019 in Wichita, KS.

He was 60 years old. Dave was born to Oran, Jr. and Freda Mae (Rose) Sellers on Friday, July 11, 1958 in Wellington, KS. He was raised on a family farm in Argonia, KS and graduated from Argonia High School.

Dave went to college and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Business & Accounting and went on to achieve a Masters of Business Administration at Wichita State University. During college he worked for Argus Tapes & Record Store as their bookkeeper. Post-Graduation he was employed at KG&E – Wolf Creek in Wichita, KS and then moved on to Bombardier Learjet in 1994.

Dave specialized in Information Technology for the payroll systems at Learjet for 22yrs and KG&E – Wolf Creek for 11 yrs. Dave with the help of his friends and family built his log cabin home off the Ninnescah River in Cheney, KS. Outside of work Dave enjoyed hunting wild game (big and small) near his home in Cheney, KS; Sharon Springs, KS; Wyoming, Colorado, and Texas.

He was also an avid fisherman who enjoyed setting limb lines in the Ninnescah River behind his house. He also enjoyed local jug fishing and bass fishing and traveled to the Great Lakes in Minnesota and Canada for Walleye. Dave also had a love of cars, he would tour all over to purchase classic cars and parts.

He collected antique toys and furniture and enjoyed visiting flea markets, estate sales, and auctions. Dave also was an excellent cook, he would go above and beyond preparing prepared delicious smoke meats and BBQ for family (including his church family) & friends. Dave was a very active member of the Cheney United Methodist Church and within numerous bible studies, prayer groups, and Sunday school programs.

He also served on numerous boards and planning committees within the church. Along with serving inside the church he also volunteered his time on several mission trips outside the church and fundraising events i.e. Fair Booth, Suppers, and Evangelist committees, and many more. He also attended and participated Walk to Emmaus, Promise Keepers, and Habitat for Humanity.

He supported the Cheney 4-H club by leading the woodworking club and supported his daughter Megan with horse shows by founding/establishing the Cheney Saddle Club. Dave also helped raise money and build the concession stands at the Cheney Arena. Dave is survived by his Daughter Megan Rene Sellers of Los Angeles, CA; his Brother Alan Sellers and his wife Beverly of Milan, KS; and several nephews in Argonia, KS and Kansas City, KS.

Dave was preceded in death by his father Oran Jr. Sellers, mother Freda (Rose) Sellers, brother Roger Sellers, and his niece Hannah Sellers. Dave was an adventurer and a tinker, he loved to take on new projects and learn new things, he was until the end a believer in God and held strongly to his Christian values. Let us all celebrate the life of Dave Sellers and remember his values and his spirit.

In lieu of flowers or gifts please donate in David’s name to the “Cheney United Methodist Building Project”, he was on the planning committee of this project and would have loved to be part of construction and the finished product.
