David Wayne ‘Dave’ Fleury March 24, 1958 – December 5, 2018 David Wayne ”Dave” Fleury of Tombstone, Arizona passed away December 5, 2018 doing what he loved while on duty as a Paramedic with Arizona Ambulance Transport. Dave was born in Lakewood, California March 24, 1958 the youngest of 5 siblings to the late Floyd and Juanita Fleury. He spent his formative years in southern California until joining the Navy at 19 serving proudly as a Rescue Swimmer.
He was stationed on Coronado Island and his duty cruise was aboard the Destroyer Eliot in East Asia. First married in 1980, later brought the gift of the greatest joy in his life, his daughter Jennifer in 1984. They were inseparable from the moment she was born.
After the Navy he spent many years in the air freight industry in California. In 2002 he became a resident of Tombstone, Arizona. He joined the Tombstone Volunteer Fire Department as a firefighter and that began his proud servanthood in EMS.
He became an EMT in 2005. In 2006 Dave found and married the love of his life, Nova, happily becoming a bonus Dad to Brittnay, Shaina and Michael Jean. Dave went on to become a Paramedic in 2008 and was continually striving to improve in his field.
In 2013 Dave was awarded the Star of Life by Arizona Ambulance Transport and the American Ambulance Association where he was sent to Washington, D.C. to be honored for outstanding contributions in EMS. Dave was always reaching and looking for the next possibility and achieved certification as a Flight Medic in 2014. He not only worked in EMS but later became an instructor to help and guide others in his field.
He did volunteer training for the Tombstone community, was a member of Healthy Tombstone, served as Training Coordinator for Arizona Ambulance and at one time, EMS coordinator for Tombstone Fire Department. He is preceded in death by his parents and survived by three sisters, one brother and their children. Dave loved his wife and children more than anything else in his life but was even more blessed to be called Grandpa.
He leaves behind his wife Nova, his children, Jennifer Fleury, Brittnay (Ryan) Johnson, Shaina Slentz, Michael J. (Kirsten) Slentz , his grandsons Jake and Stetson Johnson and granddaughter Harper Kay Slentz. The Tombstone Fire Department has set up a GoFundMe page on Facebook for anyone wishing to make a donation to the family in view of this sudden and unexpected loss. Services and interment will be on Sunday December 16, 2018 in Tombstone, Arizona beginning with a 1:00pm traditional Tombstone’ Walk Down’ Allen Street, 1:30pm service at Schieffelin Hall with graveside immediately following.
Fellowship will be at the Tombstone Community Congregational Church 2nd and Allen Street.
