David Francis Royer, Age 80, passed away early Thursday December 6th, in his home in Howell, Michigan, with the presence of his wife, after two years of attentive care from St Joseph Mercy Hospice. He was born on August 3rd, 1938 in Bowling Green Ohio to the late William and Ruth Royer. In addition to his love of family, David enjoyed and cherished many friendships while coaching a men’s softball team, playing a good game of golf for years, and for a time serving on the Howell Fire Department.

For 28 years he was a valuable and dedicated employee of the City of Howell, loving most every day on the job and his many coworkers. In spite of being an avid Ohio State fan, David requested his body be donated to the University of Michigan Anatomical Donations Program for a study of his heart and lung illness. After a period of time his cremains will be interned in the St John’s Episcopal Church Memorial garden at a later date.

David is survived by his wife of 25 years, Claudia Thibodeau of Howell, two sons,Tim Mack of Ida, Michigan, and David E (Christina) Royer of Howell, three daughters, Leslie Jan of Toledo, Ohio, Karrie Dunn of Pinckney, Michigan, and Kelly (Daniel) Poindexter of Cocoa, Florida. He leaves behind a sister, Lillian Jean Reiterman of Port Clinton, Ohio, and two brothers, Jack (Ida) of Toledo, Ohio, and Jim (Karen) of Sylvania, Ohio. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

There will be a memorial service at 12 noon on Saturday December 15, 2018 at St John’s Episcopal Church, 504 Prospect St. Howell, Michigan, for family and friends wishing to attend. After the service there will be a luncheon provided in adjacent Hubbel Hall for those wishing to stay and visit with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to St Joseph Mercy Hospice or St John’s Episcopal Church.
