David J. Webster passed away peacefully at his home in the early morning hours of June 22, 2018. Hollis, his wife of 39 years, was holding his hand. He succumbed to pancreatic cancer.

David was 64 years old. Beloved father of Michael, Benjamin and Rachel (Bill Finn), son of Bill and Miriam Webster and brother of Don Webster (Nancy). David was born and raised in South Chicago.

David received his accounting degree from University of Illinois Chicago and his Masters in Taxation from DePaul University. He also served in the Illinois National Guard. He worked as a CPA, rising to partnership at DeLoitte.

He then worked as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Brambles, Inc., an international industrial services firm, moving on to the CFO position at Prairie Materials in Chicago. He ended his career as president of Illinois Brick Company and Southfield Corporation. David loved sports.

He loved to play them, coach them and watch them. His passion for ball games, including baseball, basketball and golf, framed and enriched his life. From Little League in South Chicago and the All City Baseball Champs at Bowen High School, to the UIC Flames, David’s baseball career culminated in his 2001 induction to the University’s Hall of Fame.

After moving to Glen Ellyn in the early 1980s, David coached dozens of youth baseball and basketball teams, taking one baseball team all the way to the Little League World Series. Indeed, David never met a sport he didn’t like. He played basketball and golf, skied and boxed, and never missed a Kentucky Derby, hosting a Final Four party, or suiting up for a Glen Ellyn Real Men’s (GERM’s) Super Bowl ski trip.

One of David’s greatest strengths was making and keeping friendships. Indeed, David’s entire high school baseball team came to visit him in the hospital during his final illness. David’s warmth, wisdom, humor and support will be sorely missed.

A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, June 28 at 3PM at Congregation Etz Chaim, 1710 S. Highland Avenue, Lombard IL, 60148.
