Obituary for David LaVerne Allen When a man becomes a fireman his greatest act of bravery has been accomplished. What he does after that is all in the line of work. – Edward F. Croker, Chief FDNY 1899-1911 David LaVerne Allen, 75, of Bonita Springs, FL, passed away on Friday, November 30, 2018.

Formerly of Rockford, IL, he had been a Bonita Springs resident for the last 27 years. He was born July 25, 1943 in Rockford, IL, the son of LaVerne Kenneth “Pete” and Veronica Rosella “Verna” (née Daugirda) Allen. David was a member of the Rockford Fire Department, a Shriner, a Freemasons, a father, a friend.

David loved life to its fullest, giving his whole heart to his friends and family, to his crafts and projects, to his work and career. David enjoyed making things, and seeing the results. As a craftsman, or as a hobbyist, David used his hands and his humor to share his talents with those that would accept them, and those that needed them.

David is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara (née Crete) Allen; his beloved daughters, Lisa Allen, Kristen (Jim Hebert) Allen and Sara Allen; brother, Donald (Paula) Allen; sister-in-law Mary (née Crete) Picchi; and five cherished grandchildren, Jaquan, D.J., Adam, Abby and Zoe. He was preceded in death by his son, Todd Allen in 2013. Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

Please honor David, not by mourning his passing, but by celebrating his life. Toast a memory, tell a story, or just hold tight to a fond memory. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you be like Dave.
