Dave was born on August 23, 1959 to LeRoy and Shirley (Werre) Bendewald in Ashley, ND. After receiving his degree in Business Administration, he went to work at Floor to Ceiling in Fargo ND, but quickly learned that he wasn’t cut out for the corporate sector.

His love of small towns brought him back to Oakes, where he worked for EF Hutton and later opening Dave’s Auto Sales. He wore many hats (but all of them cowboy hats) over the years. His love of animals and horses led him to living on a hobby farm, showing horses, and working a cattle ranch in Kansas.

Dave lived with diabetes for 50 years, he survived cancer, two heart attacks and was recently diagnosed with congestive heart failure. Although his health was challenging, he never complained and chose to live his best life. He loved a good western, a good conversation and a good pair of cowboy boots.

Dave is survived by his parents LeRoy and Shirley, his sisters Sherry and Deb (Dave) Gemar and nieces Madison and Bailey. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 31, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Oakes.
