OBITUARY David R Jernigan September 13, 1933 – September 11, 2018 David R. Jernigan, age 84, passed away September 11, 2018 at Quince Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Memphis. He is survived by his wife, Doris Washam Jernigan of 63 years. He is also survived by a sister, Wanda Burrell of Memphis, a niece, Konnie Maharrey of Byhalia, MS and a nephew, Jerry McGill of Tampa, FL.

He was the son of the late George and Hattie Jernigan of Memphis. Upon moving from Paragould, AR to Memphis in 1949, David started a career in trucking and started with Gordons Transports until they closed in 1983. The next 17 years was spent with Tennessee California Express as General Manager until retiring at the first of 2000.

He spent two years in the U.S. as a military policeman in 1954 and 1955. David was an avid golfer and while working was a member of Wyndyke Country Club. At retirement he joined Irene Golf and Country Club.

Memphis Funeral Home on Poplar is in charge. Burial will be in the Cagle Cemetery at Pleasant Springs Methodist Church three miles north of the entrance to the Chickasaw State Park. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Saturday with the service to follow at 11:00 AM at Memphis Funeral Home.
