David was born on September 30, 1940 to August and Anita (Sill) Reinhardt and raised in Lewistown, IL. Ever the eternal storyteller, his penchant for people and knowledge was the foundation of his success in life.

His work ethic started at a young age while working at his Dad’s meat locker. After graduating from Lewistown High School, he took a summer job as a crew mate aboard a barge on the Mississippi River. He spoke fondly of his time spent on the river.

After that summer, he enlisted in the Navy. Since he excelled at math and chemistry, he completed Naval Pharmacy School and helped set up a pharmacy in Oakland, CA. He was then assigned to Midway Island where he was a pharmacist’s mate and corpsman.

It was during his service that he became inspired to pursue a career in pharmaceuticals. About a year after his discharge, he enrolled at University of Illinois at Chicago to study pharmacology. While in Chicago, he worked part time in the Monroe building as a pharmacy tech.

It was there that he met the love of his life, Mary Brandt. Within 6 weeks after meeting each other, they eloped on May 18, 1967. Shortly after, he became a pharmaceutical salesman/trainer for GD Searle and moved to Elgin, IL.

His career in sales of pharmaceuticals and drug packaging spanned many years. Later he worked for Kane County Board of Elections until his retirement. David’s interests varied over the years.

Forever the die-hard St. Louis Cardinal fan, he relished his childhood meeting of Stan Musial. He was also a self-taught computer guru; however, his true passion was books. His accomplishments were as plentiful as his interests.

Amongst numerous sales awards, his crowning achievement was to become Masonic Grand Lecturer and Past Master for Post 117, Elgin. David’s kindness, charisma and humor enlightened everyone. He will be greatly missed.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Mary (Manya) of 51 years, children Amy (Jim) Mihalic, Heidi (Jeff) Holthusen, John (Beth) Reinhardt, grandson, Paul Reinhardt and grand-dogs, Ruthie, Schatzi and Elsa. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother John, sister-in-law, Ellen, son-in-law, Jeff and his best buddy, Rudy. There will not be a service.
