Dawn Lucas Miller was born on November 7, 1946 in Harrisonburg and died on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at her home in Harrisonburg. Dawn was the daughter of the late William “Bill” Lucas and Elva Lee Lucas. Growing up she was cared for by her amazing and loving grandparents, the late George and Louie Lee, lovingly known as Nonnie and Daddy Lee.

On December 28, 1946, she married her high school sweetheart, Harry Miller, who has lovingly cared for her since her cancer diagnosis in October 2017. She is survived by the loves of her life, her husband of 54 years, two sons, Troy Miller (Bonnie) of Suffolk and Travis Miller (Tim) of Harrisonburg and three wonderful grandsons, Corbin, Simon and Owen. Also surviving are siblings from two families, Michael Grim, Paula Eggleston, Judy Hulvey, Carolyn Slye and Billy Lucas.

Prince and Halo were her constant companions with wagging tails and endless kisses. Retirement was not in her vocabulary because she loved working. For more than 14 years she was an accountant at Harrisonburg Rockingham Social Services.

She loved the beach and eating dinner on her screened porch watching the birds and squirrels with the pups barking at them. It was Dawn’s request that she be cremated and there be no public services. She loved her family beyond measure and has always prayed for their happiness, contentment and refulness; God answered her prayers.

We appreciate and thank family and friends who have stood beside us through her illness. We are so appreciative of your kindness.
