Deirdre DeSantis Parsons, 56 of Clarksville, MD passed away 2/10/2019 with her beloved husband and friend by her side. She was born 8/15/1962 to Joseph A. and Mary D. DeSantis in Milford MA. Ms. Parsons received her B.S. in Medical Technology in 1984 from Anna Maria College in Paxton, MA and an M.S. degree in Allied Health in 1990 from the University of Connecticut.

In 1992, Ms. Parsons received her Specialist Certificate in Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine from New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston, MA. She is certified as both a Medical Laboratory Scientist and Specialist in Blood Banking by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). At UMSOM, Department of Medical and Research Technology, Ms. Parsons served as Assistant Professor and Course Director and in 2002 was named Program Director for the undergraduate Medical Laboratory Science Program.

A beloved educator, she was voted best instructor by the students 5 times. She was a passionate teacher and mentor who cared deeply for her students and their success. Also, many of her students became lifelong friends after graduating from the program.

Deirdre was a member of St. Louis Church, Clarksville, MD. In addition she was Vice President of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, University of Maryland Baltimore Campuses. She was also a member of American Association of Blood Banking (AABB) as well as the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP).

Deirdre recently retired from The UMSOM Medical Technology Program at the University of Maryland Baltimore where she had a long and distinguished career as a Program Director, medical laboratory scientist and educator for over 16 years. In her spare time, Deirdre enjoyed gardening, cooking, travel, classical music and theatre and hiking. She enjoyed antiquing with her husband and spending time with their cats and dogs.
