The following is an excerpt from “Don’s Memories” by Donald Weiler, Tudy’s older brother, written in 2000. He tells it best. Tudy, our kid sister, was the fifteenth child and last born.

She is my buddy. We share visits, phone calls, letters, and [ed. wedding] anniversaries (both Dec.

27th). I adore her. After Mugs [ed.

the 5th child and their older sister Margaret] was married and had moved to Wahpeton, Tudy and I were the last at home with Dad. We were both teenagers, 4 plus years apart, “babies” with adult responsibilities. Dad, moody, and often unhappy, was away for long periods of time leaving a waning business, a big house and two kids to keep things going.

Money was not short but it was not easy for either one of us. As the oldest, it was necessary I be involved with her chores, her dress, her studies, her diet, even her dating. I tried not to be bossy, snoopy or overpowering, but I was.

Mugs observed from Wahpeton and guided us as best she could, though 50 miles away. Tudy did great under these conditions and carried her responsibilities like an adult. She did well in high school and finally, when I went into the military in 1951, she assumed the homemaker role for Dad and herself.

She went on to nurse’s training and married her high school sweetheart, Gary Dick, a fine young man from a neighboring town. He schooled in engineering, went into the Air Force, and became a Lt. Colonel.

During his career, they moved many times and traveled extensively. They raised two girls and two boys. Now retired, they live in San Antonio, TX.

Tudy excels in everything she does. She keeps a beautiful home and operates a sewing and craft business from her home, with her own labels. She has updated her nurse’s training and is still a qualified nurse.

She is an excellent bridge player, as well as her husband, and is a fine teacher of the art. In addition to all this, she is still “a good looking chick”.
