Denver D. Keller, 86, died on February 27, 2019 at his daughter Kristi’s home in Poncha Springs with his family by his side. Up until recently returning to Salida, he had spent the past 22 years living in Mazatlan, Mexico which he considered to be his home. He was born on May 13, 1932 in Yankton, South Dakota to William H. and Imogene (Willey) Keller.

He was the middle child of eight children. He moved to Salida in 1965 where he raised his son and three daughters. He spent several years working at Climax Mine and after his retirement in the mid 80s he went to work at Rocky Mountain Cabinets.

In 2001, he moved to Mazatlan year-round, returning every so often to visit with family and friends. In Mexico, he enjoyed the weather and getting to know the local people. His favorite pastime was finding a hole in the wall bar and enjoying a nice cold cerveza.

He went to the local prison twice a week and taught the inmates English and in turn learned a bit of Spanish himself. While in the States, he enjoyed participating in the Senior Olympics and won several medals in different events. His favorites pastimes were reading, working crossword puzzles, and playing cribbage with his daughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Betty and Darlene; and brothers Claude, Gordon, and Larry. He is survived by his son Ken (Debbie) Keller; daughters Dixie Prine, Danna (Greg) Bullington, and Kristi (Bob) Jefferson; brother Ron Keller; sister Donna Opoka; grandchildren Michael VonBehren, Brandi (Brent) Veltri, Abby (Kevin) Oblak, Chelsie (Ryan) Clegg, Mitch Bullington, Jess Keller, Jen Keller, and Brad Keller; and many nieces and nephews. Per his request, there will be no memorial services.

His ashes will be spread in Mazatlan where he wanted to be. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Hope West Hospice or the National Senior Games Association through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home. Arrangements were with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
