Memorial services for Deon R. Deuel, 81, of Yankton, SD will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 20, 2018, at Home for Funerals 1203 W. Norfolk Ave. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Norfolk. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at Home for Funerals, Norfolk, Nebraska.

Deon passed away Friday, December 14, 2018 peacefully surrounded by loved ones, after a short battle with brain cancer. Deon was born August 15, 1937 to Raymond and Ada Mae (Beemer) Deuel. He grew up in Norfolk and attended school there.

Deon was united in marriage to Patricia J. Patrick on January 29, 1962 in Norfolk. They lived in the Norfolk area for many years before moving to Yankton in 1999 to retire. After the loss of his wife in 2013, Deon moved to Sioux Falls, SD to live with his daughter.

Deon worked as a carpet layer most of his life. He did so as an independent contractor but also worked for many businesses. Deon may also be remembered in his early years as the bartender at Charlie’s bar and Jake’s Bar in Norfolk.

Deon loved to hunt and fish, especially with his buddies. During football season you could find him cheering on the Huskers. Deon’s greatest joy in life was his family and spending time together with them.

Deon is survived by: daughters, Sheri (Tim) Ryan of Norfolk, Lisa (Chris) Rath of Randolph, Nikki Slater of Spirit Lake, IA, Dione (Damian) Kaup of Sioux Falls, SD and Michaela Gasca of Sioux Falls, SD, grandchildren, Lindsy Ellenberger, Landon Ryan, Amanda Haberman, Courtney Mains, Madison Unrau, Danielle Unrau, Abigail Slater, Isabella Gasca and 3 great-grandchildren, sister, Kay (Jim) Leitzke, brother-in-law, James Patrick, sisters-in-law, Sue Weyhrich and Kathy Rabbass and numerous nieces and nephews. Deon was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, parents-in-law, Gene & Ramona Patrick, brother, Keith Deuel and brothers-in-law, Milan (Bob) Patrick and Alan (Doug) Patrick. There’s still time to send flowers to the Visitation at the Home for Funerals from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on December 19, 2018.
