Obituary for Diane M. Giles Diane M. Giles passed away peacefully at her home July 26, 2018 surrounded by her loving husband and children. Diane was born on March 12, 1951 in Roosevelt Utah to Bob and Evelyn Miles. She was the second of four siblings- Danny, Kathleen (deceased), and Mike.

Growing up, Diane was very active and successful in school and extracurricular activities, including winning “Best Actress” in state competition and top placement in many pageants. Diane graduated from Altamont High School in 1969. She then attended Brigham Young University where she studied acting and dance.

Diane married the love of her life, LaVon Giles, on May 28, 1970. Together they brought four children into this earth- Heather, Shannon, Natalie, and Shade. Diane worked very hard with LaVon to help him develop their ranch and she loved to go riding in the mountains with him checking the cattle.

Diane was a multitalented woman. She was an excellent seamstress, writer, actress, dancer, and painter. Diane always loved to learn new things and truly enjoyed sharing her knowledge with others.

As a passionate teacher and librarian for 30 years, she led many speech and drama/ forensics and drill teams to district and state success. She truly cared for her students academically as well as personally. One of Diane’s favorite moments was being able to portray a bank teller in the movie “Knocking on Heaven’s Door”.

Another treasured memory was when she met her favorite actor of all time, John Wayne. Diane loved to travel and experience new places. She often talked about her visits to Spain, Scotland, Washington D.C., Alaska, and Mexico among others.

Diane was a caring wife, mother, and grandmother. One of her greatest loves was spending time with her grandchildren. After retiring from teaching, Diane enjoyed spending her free time painting, writing, making jewelry, and working in her yard.

Diane is survived by her husband LaVon Giles of Altamont, children Heather (Michael) VanRiper of Las Vegas, Shannon (Roxanne) Giles of Altamont, Natalie Giles of Arcadia, Shade (Jessie) Giles of Seattle. Also survived by 6 grandchildren- Alec, Jesse, McRae, Jacob, Avery, and Eli. Funeral services will be held at 12:00pm on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at the Altamont LDS Chapel (15600 W 4000 N. Altamont, Utah) with a viewing from 9:30-11:30am at the same location.
