Dolores E. Perron (Wickman), 90, of Iron Mountain passed away Thursday, April 18,2019 at Freeman’s Nursing & Rehabilitation Community. She was born December 30, 1928 in Felch, MI, daughter of the late Arnold “Farmer” and Selma “Sally” (Forslund) Wickman. Dee married Wayne D. Perron on July 19, 1947 in Zion Lutheran Church, Metropolitan, MI.
She was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. When her children were young she taught Sunday School at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. In her later years, Dolores was a part of the Quilting group at the church, cutting squares of material for the sewers and she was the go-fer for the women.
She loved the many dogs and cats the family had, especially Sadie and Jed, the basset hounds, and her Siamese cats, Lover, Ruby and Clara. She loved to read and knitted when younger. She also had a passion for ceramics.
She cut rags into strips of material for her daughter to weave rag rugs. Wayne and Dolores enjoyed picking strawberries at Chassell every year when the family was young. Picking berries and canning beet pickles were seasonal activities.
Dolores loved the coming of spring trilliums and the wren. The singing of the wren always brought her joy. Dolores was a homebody and she was not one to pass up a good fish fry.
Dolores lived In Felch in her early years, moving with the family to Milwaukee for about one year In 1942-43. The family moved back to Felch, then to Kingsford in 1946 and she graduated from Kingsford High School in 1947. Dolores worked at Americana Healthcare Nursing Home in Kingsford for 28 years as a laundress.
Wayne and Dolores lived in Kingsford Heights for many years and then moved to Iron Mountain as they neared their retirement years. Wayne and Dee traveled as much as possible. In their younger years the family tent-camped when traveling around the country.
They then bought a travel trailer and continued on their many adventures. They also took a cruise ship up the coast into Alaska, which they enjoyed a lot. The highlight of their travels was the trip to Finland and Sweden to meet distant relatives and to retrace where Dolores’s family had come from.
Dolores and Wayne were Chicago Cub and Green Bay Packer fans. They loved the senior bus trip adventures to various events. Wayne preceded her In death on November 21, 2001.
In addition to her husband and parents, Dolores was preceded in death by her son, Bruce Perron in 2003. Dolores is survived by her son Barry Perron of Florence, WI, daughter Debra (Michael) Rodebaugh, of Vermontville, MI, and her brother Duane (Shirley) Wickman of New Hudson. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and their children and as she would say, “many shirttail relatives” in the area.
The family wishes to thank her special friend and cousin, Carol Cheney, for her support over the years. In addition, a special thanks to Mary Burgess for all the help she extended to Dolores after Wayne passed.
