Obituary for Dolores Jeanne Bowens Miles Dolores Jeanne Bowens Miles, 70, passed away on Thursday, November 29th, 2018. She was born on January 13th, 1948 in Charleston, West Virginia and lived her life in service of her community in Winfield and Scott Depot, West Virginia, along with her husband, Douglas Miles, with whom she was married for 48 years. Dolores lived her life fully and selflessly, graciously and generously, and will be remembered for her kindness to all.
She graduated from nursing school and completed a fulfilling career taking care of others, most recently retiring from the Broadmore Assistant Living facility as an executive director of nursing. She was a devoted member of the Pine Grove Church of Christ. Dolores was the president of the Community Education Outreach Service, a small local club aimed to help the community with charitable donations, and a member of the Red Hat Society.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Rosie and William “Bill” Bowens; brothers, Herald and Henry; and sister, Vera. She is survived by her son, Derek Miles; her husband, Douglas Miles; sisters, Loretta, Geraldine; and brother, Eddie, in addition to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She is also survived by her adorable grand-pup, Chimera.
A celebration of Dolores’ life will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday December 5, 2018 at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane with Jack Gilchrist officiating. Visitation will be from 12pm-2pm prior to the service Wednesday, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mount Vernon Cemetery, Hurricane.
Family and friends will gather after the funeral proceedings at the Pine Grove Church of Christ to share a meal. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Community Education Outreach Service to continue Dolores’ charitable work.
