Obituary for Don R. Thomas Don R. Thomas, age 87, of Harsens Island, peacefully passed away on July 4, 2018. Don was born in Detroit on June 13, 1931. He graduated from East Detroit High School.

At 18, he joined the U.S. Army and proudly served during the Korean War. After honorably discharged Don attended Wayne State University earning both BA in arts and MA in education. Don started his long career in the education field as an art teacher at East Detroit Junior High and was called to move to the special education field where he worked his way up to become an administrator for the MISD.

Upon retirement he was a teacher mentor for Wayne State University for St. Clair County. Don was a traveler, sailor, pilot, artist, and U of M football fan who met many wonderful friends on his adventures. Don was preceded in death by his wife; Brenda Thomas.

He will be sadly missed by his family: his daughter; D.J. (Steve) Hill, granddaughter; Cassie Hill, special friends; Debbie and Eric Mehl and their son Kyle, along with many more wonderful friends. Cremation arrangements are by Young Funeral Home, China Twp. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
