Shirokmann, age 62, of Toms River, passed away on Friday, December 21, 2018 at home. Born and raised in New Brunswick, he lived the entirety of his adult life at the shore.

He loved running and playing with his dog “Elcid” on the beach, as well as siting around the bon fire playing guitar, hanging with friends, while living in Camp Osborn. Just recently he purchase a home in Toms River, and was excited about fixing it up, unfortunately mourning the recent passing of his faithful, loving Labrador “Muddy” (named after the musician Muddy Waters). It’s no surprise that he named his dog Muddy because Donald was a lifelong multi-talented musician who entertained crowds all over New Jersey.

He played in a number of bands, some of which included such shore luminaries as Vinny “Mad Dog” Lopez, Bill Haley Jr, and Laura Crisci. He loved music, and those who knew and saw him play always talked about his musical prowess. Donald was indeed multi-talented, while music was his passion; he used his other talents in woodworking and contracting to pay the bills.

His skills were sought after and he did many renovations in the historic Ocean Grove area. Later in life with age creeping up on him, he took a job as a Medical Transport driver and through his compassion and empathy connected with those who were suffering, or who just needed a friendly ear to tell their stories to. Donald was preceded in death by his father Andrew J. Shirokmann Jr. and his sister Nora Anders.

He is survived by his mother, Irene (Pocsik) Shirokmann; his brother Howard Shirokmann; his brother-in-law Denny Anders; and his nieces Dana and Lauren. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday December 29th from 1 – 3 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Highway 88, Brick. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.
