Donald Dings, 74, of New Hartford, died peacefully Monday, January 7, 2019 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington, surrounded by his loving family. He is at rest after years of brave struggle with multiple illnesses. He was the loving husband of Marlene (Rosso) Dings for 53 years.

Born June 3, 1944, he was the son of the late Francis and Catherine (Vienot) Dings. Over the course of a long career, Don worked for Hemlock Construction for many years, formed a partnership with Laurel Equipment in Torrington, and owned and operated “Don’s Welding” in the south end of Torrington.

Don loved to golf especially in Vermont and also enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, and hosting parties such as the annual Christmas gathering “in the barn out back”. An avid bowler, Don met the love of his life, Marlene, at Sky Top Lanes in Torrington. They married in 1965, and over the years enjoyed casino gaming as well as bowling together.

Following his retirement from the construction business, from 1985 to 1990, he and his wife owned and operated the Bakerville Store. Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Terri Dings Vogellus (Vincent); sons Francis Dings and Brian Dings (Vicki); grandson Brenden Dings, granddaughter Lexie Dings, two step-grandchildren and a step-great-grandchild, all of New Hartford; brother-in-law Robert Rosso (Rita), and several nieces and nephews, all of Vermont. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Francis, who died in an Air Force training accident in 1960.

Friends may call on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 5 Steele Road, New Hartford from 12 – 2 PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Don’s memory to Boy Scout Troop #3, in care of George Baujin, 686 E. Main St., Torrington, CT 06790 or Hands of Grace, P.O. Box 145, 8 Wickett St., Pine Meadow, CT 06061.
