Donald Ray Shumpert, 60, Denver, Indiana, passed away at 10:19 a.m. on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at his residence. Born March 22, 1958, in Peru, Indiana, he was the son of Ples Lee Shumpert and the former Gennie M. Walton. On October 27, 2009, in Columbus, Ohio, he was married to Melody Dawn Lesley Doran, and she survives.
He was a 1977 graduate of Peru High School. He then went to work for Norfolk and Western Railroad before enlisting in the US Army. He was a member of Mt.
Herman Missionary Baptist Church, Peru. He had also attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church with his wife. Donald is survived by his wife, Melody Dawn Shumpert, Denver; mother, Gennie M. Terry, Peru; two sons, Preston Anthony Shumpert, New York; Denzel Ray Shumpert, Kokomo; seven siblings, Terry L. Shumpert, Warsaw; Carl G. Shumpert, Peru; twin sister, Sandra K. Shumpert, Virginia Beach; E. Wayne Shumpert, Peru; Adam T. Shumpert, Peru; Artina M. Shumpert, Indianapolis; and Jamie C. Terry, Virginia Beach; five step-children, Tashina N. McNabney, Wabash; Yanel F. Rigle, Peru; Guanea N. Talbert, Kokomo; Nemiah D. Doran, Kokomo; and Aaron J. Doran, Denver; two grandchildren; twelve step grandchildren, and two step-great grandchildren; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at McClain Funeral Home, Denver. Military rites will be presented at the funeral home following the service.
Visitation will be from 3-7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 12, 2018, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Relay for Life. McClain Funeral Home, Denver, Indiana, has been entrusted with arrangements.
