Dora M. Hassler, 98, of Orion, died, Wednesday, October 31, 2018, at Hillcrest Home, rural Geneseo, IL. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m., Saturday, November 3, 2018, at Kirk, Huggins, and Esterdahl Funeral Home Ltd, 1301-4th Street Orion, IL, with Pastor Jerry Higdon officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Western Township Cemetery, Orion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, Orion, of which she was a member. Dora was born May 10, 1920, in Good Hope, IL, the daughter of L.L. and Bessie (Stump) Payne.

Dora married Buel “Bill” Hassler, October 16, 1940, in Iowa. Bill preceded her in death, May 11, 1974. Dora was employed at Dorothy Stockton’s for 12 years, The Orion Flower Shop, Von Maur at South Park Mall, Moline, in the Linen Dept.

for 9 Years. Later she was a homemaker, companion, and caregiver in the Orion area. Dora was very active with the church, where she served as a Deaconess, Chairman of the Sunshine Group, and a member of the Shining Lights, and choir.

She enjoyed being a member of the Book Club, Orion American Legion Auxiliary, and former member of the Pythian Sisters. Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews, Judy (Marvin) Hogren, Orion, Minnie Lee Poma, Jackie (Tom) Peterson, Osco, Irv (Yvonne) Patch, Orion, and Larry Payne; special friend, Martha Selby, NC. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, May Anderson, Peggy Knight, and Mary Payne, brothers, Edward, Frederich, Francis, and infant brother, Max.
