Doris Hocker Jones Osborn passed from this earthly life to the life beyond on May 1, 2019 at age 87. Doris was a magnificent lady, devoted wife and mother, and a caring and inspiring friend to many people. If she had any fault it would be caring too much for others, without regard to her own needs.
Doris was born on August 5, 1931 to Theron and Anna Laura Hocker near Morgantown, Kentucky where she attended elementary and secondary school. Entering Georgetown College in 1950 she earned the Bachelor of Arts degree in 1953, majoring in business with a minor in music. She married Robert Gene Jones of Mount Sterling, Kentucky and moved with him to Columbus, Ohio to start their family.
Her husband was elected January 1, 1968 to the Ohio House of Representatives’ 107th General Assembly. He was tragically killed in an automobile accident that November and died December 5, 1968 at the young age of 38. Doris was appointed on January 15, 1969 to serve out his term through 1970 and was elected in her own right for a second term 1970-1972.
Widowed at the young age of 38 she went forward with courage and dedication to their three children. Later in life following shared recuperation from heart attacks she married David C. Osborn on April 26, 1987 until his passing on January 7, 2011. She leaves to honor her memory daughters Lydia Takieddine of Columbus, Grace Ann McCaulie (John) of Windsor, Colorado, son Lance Jones of Columbus, Ohio; granddaughters Sarah Takieddine of Columbus, Ohio, Joan McCaulie (Joel) of Jacksonville, FL, Margaret Schiek (Bradley) of Santa Anna, California, cousin David Hocker of Morgantown, Kentucky, and a host of friends throughout the country, including Rev.
Ronald F. Deering, Ph.D., her friend of some 70 years since their days together at Georgetown College. She bravely survived a heart attack and open heart surgery some years ago, and in recent months suffered from a stroke, a tragic fall, and complications which took her life. Her services will be held on Tuesday May 7 in the chapel of North Broadway Methodist Church, 48 E North Broadway St, Columbus, Ohio at 2:00 p.m. Interment at a later date in Bowling Green, KY.
