She attended grade school in Riverview and went on to attend all four years at Camargo High School. In October of her senior year, she eloped with Jack Henderson Farris to Clovis, New Mexico where they were married on October 15, 1949.
They returned and made their home in the Webb area, and Doris returned to school and graduated in 1950. Over the next 31 years, Doris and Jack made a home for themselves where they enjoyed establishing their successful farming and ranching operation. Doris was a perfect helpmate, working side by side with Jack and her father-in-law LC, hauling hay, feeding and working cattle, and attending to the gardens and farm, as well as putting together an amazing meal after a hard day’s work.
Doris had a special fondness for cattle and wildlife and especially enjoyed the spring calving seasons. During this time, three children were born: Phyllis Ann, Joe Martin, and Jimmy Lawrence. Doris was a caring mother and a constant cheerleader.
While her children were in school, Doris began working at Taloga Public Schools as a Teacher’s Aide, Bus Driver, and most dear to her heart, Playground Monitor. Doris was well loved by the children and made connections that have lasted a lifetime. Doris was a caregiver for both the old and the young.
She spent much of her time providing love and care for others including her parents and her daughter Phyllis. No request was ever too much as she gave of herself to be there for others. Her grandchildren were a bright spot in her life, and she attended many a stockshow, ballgame, and school program.
She always attended with a smile, a hug, and a bag of goodies. She became Grandma to many besides her own flesh and blood as she shared her beautiful loving spirit with all the neighborhood children and beyond. After the death of her beloved, Jack, Doris left the farm and moved to Camargo, where she often provided a huge Sunday dinner where everyone was welcome.
On June 17, 1986, Doris married good family friend, Olen Bridges. They made their home in Camargo where they welcomed one and all. Doris was well known for her garden and canning as well as her home decorating abilities.
She used her creativity and sewing skills to make her house a home where friends were always welcome and everyone was a friend. Doris spent the last 10 years as a resident of the Vici Nursing Home where she made many special friends, including Mary Dye. Doris was a godly woman who was baptized in Badley’s Pond , and who was the embodiment of “loving your neighbor as yourself”.
She made everyone feel special and was loved by others as much as she loved. She was delighted with every visitor, and always expressed her appreciation of those who took the time to care for her. Doris entered the Kingdom of Heaven on February 4, 2019.
