Obituary for Dorothy “Bunny” Miele DOROTHY “BUNNY” ANN MIELE JUNE 4, 1932 – AUGUST 30, 2018 Surrounded by her children, our beloved mom, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, Bunny, entered heaven peacefully at her home in Monument, Colorado. She was 86 years young. Bunny was born Dorothy Ann McCallum on June 4, 1932 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Ruth McCallum and William Wallace McCallum.

Bunny is survived by her brother William “Skip” McCallum, daughters Susan (Jack) Zoellner, Beth (Michael) Royal, Amy (Chris) Brawand, Jennifer McGowan, and son, Bart (Carol) Brookman, nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Bunny was preceded in death by her three husbands, Barton “Dick” Brookman, David L. McGowan, and Alfonse R. Miele. Residing in the Chicago area until age 40, Bunny courageously moved to Monument on her own with her five kids in 1972.

Here she has been a life force of kindness and generosity through her painting, business/art studio, and community support. A true matriarch to her family and friends, Bunny’s beautiful home and garden were a gathering place where she extended rich hospitality to all. Her door was always open!

As an artist, gardener and friend, creativity and generosity spilled over to all who knew her. Central to her life has been her love and dedication to family, always speaking about the importance of laughter, forgiveness, and seeing the best in others! Bunny’s effortless commitment to tending to her daughter Jennifer’s needs and growth with dignity, flowed from her easily, teaching us all about selfless love.

Bunny, your sweet words will forever ring in our ears, “Love you, love you! ” A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 7th at 10:00 am at Monument Community Presbyterian Church, 238 Third Street, Monument. There will be a celebration of life reception following at Pinecrest in Palmer Lake from 11:30am – 2:30pm.
