Dorothy E. Carter, 93, a life-long Clinton County resident, passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2018, at Whitlock Place in Crawfordsville. She was born May 14, 1925, in Clinton County, to Murl S. and Audra (Huffer) Maish. She was married 60 years to William Howard Carter, marrying June 23, 1946 in the Hillisburg Methodist Church; he preceded her in death on May 6, 2005.
In 1943, Dorothy graduated from Scircleville High School and attended Purdue University. She worked in the Kroger corporate accounting department in Indianapolis. With her husband, Dorothy raised their five children and worked the family farm.
She joined the Frankfort Times in 1971 as an Advertising Sales Representative and retired in 1991 after a successful 20-year career. Dorothy was very active with the Clinton Co. Hospital Pink Ladies and Phi Chi Epsilon sorority. Bill and Dorothy opened their home as State Jr. Miss Host Parents for several years.
Dorothy was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Frankfort and Order of the Eastern Star Clinton Chapter. Their Sunday Night Couples Card Club started as high school friends and met for over 70 years. Dorothy’s family was everything to her, and she will be remembered for loving them well.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Jay (Susie) Carter, of Sebastian, FL, Rusty (Kathy) Carter, of Crawfordsville, Joy Carter (Micky Craney) of Indianapolis, Cary (Bobbi) Carter, of Vincennes, and Neil (Pam) Carter, of Hawthorn Woods, IL. ; nine grandchildren, Tauna, Jason, Jeff, Kim, Mindy, Clayton, Audrey, Aaron, and Adam; and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Dorothy is preceded in death by her infant brother, Murl Maish Jr.; brother, William Maish; and granddaughter, Crysta.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort, from 11:00 a.m. to the start of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Dorothy’s son, Cary, will lead her services. Entombment will follow in Green Lawn Mausoleum. Memorials in Dorothy’s name may be made to the Clinton County Community Foundation.
