OBITUARY Dorothy Elizabeth Hix March 15, 1924 – December 17, 2018 Dorothy was born on March 15, 1924, in LeFlore, Oklahoma to her parents Owen and Etta Jones. She was the youngest daughter. In total there were eight children including herself.

She was number 6 followed by two brothers. Dorothy married Elmer Hix on August 8, 1942 in Bonham, Texas. During the days of World War II she was able to follow her husband to each of his assigned bases.

In 2012 Dorothy and Elmer celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Dorothy was raised a Baptist and is still a member of that faith. Her grandfather on her mother’s side helped to start several Baptist churches in the Oklahoma area around Broken Bow and LeFlore.

She was very active in the church as long as her health allowed. She could be somewhat of a prankster in that she once made bologna sandwiches using a red inner tube in place of the bologna. Another time she and a friend made cupcakes (but they were actually cornbread with icing).

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mabank. Dorothy has two children, Pat and Linda. Pat lives in Canton, Texas and Linda lives in Irving, Texas.

She has 3 granddaughters; Stephanie, Shelly and Jennifer, two great-grandsons; Cody and Zach and 2 great-granddaughters; Kaycee and Bella. She was very proud of her family. Upon Elmer’s retirement from Exxon Mobil in 1982, the moved from Irving, Texas to Gun Barrel City on Cedar Creek Lake.

She enjoyed fishing but really loved doing ceramics and some sand painting. She also loved to travel. Once she and Elmer took a 6 week vacation through Nevada and Utah.

They saw Monument Valley, Zion National Park, Arches National Park and Bryce Canyon and ended up in Wyoming. She also liked to quail hunt and went with Elmer on his pheasant hunts in Nebraska. Dorothy was an amazing lady who will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
