Dorothy (Schwartz) Ely, 98, of Columbus, Ohio passed away on January 22, 2019 at St. Ann’s Hospital, Westerville, Ohio. Dorothy was born in Gallipolis, OH on December 6, 1920 to the late Jacob and Lillian (Nuzum) Schwartz and was predeceased by her nine siblings and husband James (Jim) Ely, as well as daughter Debra Jean and son-in-law John. Dorothy married Jim in Fort Monmouth, NJ at the beginning of WW II and started a family at the end of the war in 1947.

After Jim’s retirement, they began spending winters in Florida and returned to Columbus year-round in 2011. Dorothy spent the last four years of her life as a resident of Oakleaf Village in Columbus. Dorothy enjoyed crafts and spent many hours sharing her work with others and leading craft demonstrations.

She was also an avid Euchre player. Dorothy is survived by sons Larry Ely (Ginger) of Falmouth, Maine and Jack Ely (Nenette) of Oldsmar, Florida and daughter Cathy Ely of Columbus, three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her many nephews and nieces.

Family will receive friends on Sat. 1/26/2019 from 9:00 am until the time of service at 10 in the Rutherford Funeral Home @ Powell, 450 W. Olentangy Street, Powell, Ohio. Burial will follow at the Resurrection Cemetery, Lewis Center, OH.
