Cynthia Marie Baughman, age 62, of Lancaster, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2019, after a long and courageous battle with kidney cancer. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, April 14, 1956, to Frank and Patricia Platkowski. Graduated from Watkins Memorial High School in 1974 and Mt.

Carmel School of Nursing in 1977. Throughout her nursing career she worked at Mt. Carmel West, Grant Medical Center, and HeartCare, which eventually joined OhioHealth and enabled her to get her 35-year pin.

Cindy is survived by her loving husband “Bucko Joe B” of 37 years; daughters Maggie Baughman and Amy (Josh) Krumm and three foster grandchildren; sisters Cathy (Phillip) Kauffeld, Claire Brotherton and twin sister Christy (Kiki) Cooper; step-mom Dorothy Platkowski and step-sisters Cindy (Fred) Houdeshell, Beth (Gene) Raab and step-brother Steve (Debbie) Ogle; nieces Karen Cooper and Valerie (Dustin) Tincher and great nephew Brady Tincher; sister-in law Mary Agnes (Chuck) Mathias; brother-in-laws Mike (Barb) Baughman, Bill (Marsha) Baughman; many nieces and nephews, and all the many friends in Lancaster. Cindy was preceded in death by her grandparents, John and Mae Lassa; parents Frank and Patricia Platkowski; step-brother Bruce Ogle and brother-in-laws Ken Brotherton and Jimmy Cooper. Cindy was a huge sports fan whether it was the NCAA, NFL or MLB including the OSU Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians.

She made many a trip to Las Vegas not only to watch “March Madness”, but play the nickel slots. In addition, made a few trips to Wheeling Downs, the Cincinnati Casino and Scioto Downs. She loved her coffee in the morning and Bud Light in the evening, but lost her taste for both after starting the targeted immune therapy to kill the cancer.

She was an avid reader and loved to spend time with her daughters as a school volunteer, Girl Scout chaperone and 4-H leader. Once her nursing career ended, Cindy started quilting and joined a “quilting bee” and the WWP women’s bible study group where she met some wonderful ladies. Cindy loved being a nurse and gave selflessly her time, knowledge and skills to others.

She was compassionate and caring beyond measure. She was dedicated to bettering the lives and empowering the patients she cared for. She enjoyed long hours at OhioHealth Heart and Vascular (HeartCare) surrounded by the many great people in her work life.

Cindy continued her giving spirit by donating her eyes to the Central Ohio Lions Eye Bank. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the loving and caring group of physicians (Drs. Amsterdam, Davakis, Good, Fleishman, Mehta and Tempelhof), nurses and staff at OhioHealth Heart and Vascular.

There are no words to express our love and gratitude to Dr. Rials and his wife, Terri, who have been a very important part of Cindy’s life for the past 17 years. She would be working still today if the cancer had not forced her into early retirement and limited her nursing career to 40 years. The family also wishes to thank the many caregivers including Dr. Moore of the Zangmeister Cancer Clinic, the Cleveland Clinic, the staff at Grant Medical Center, Fairfield Medical Center and FairHope Hospice.

Cindy’s legacy of service, compassion, caring and love is something we should all embrace to honor and celebrate her life and carry on her spirit forever. O.R. Woodard Funeral Home will be handling the cremation. Her obituary and memorial can be viewed at the website www.

orwoodyard.com. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 5133 Walnut Road, Buckeye Lake, Ohio. Reverend William A. Hritsko officiating.
