Dorothy (Mason) Anderson, 92, of Newton died on Friday, December 21, 2018, at Nelson Manor Nursing Home. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, December 28, at the First United Methodist Church. The family will greet friends from 12 p.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Jasper County Animal Rescue League or the Jasper County Courthouse Lighting Fund may be left at the church or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Dorothy, the daughter of John N. and Willie Marie (Sneed) Mason, Sr., was born on December 16, 1926 in Birmingham, Alabama. She grew up in Pulaski, Tennessee and graduated from Pulaski High School at the age of 16.

Dorothy was always a hard worker and began working at the Drugstore in Pulaski shortly after graduation. In the early 1960’s, Dorothy moved to Newton, Iowa and began working in Accounting at Plant I and Plant II at the Maytag Company until her retirement in the late 1980’s. On September 23, 1967, Dorothy was united in marriage with Lloyd Anderson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, Farm Bureau, Newton Squares, and the Red Hat Society. Dorothy also volunteered at the Jasper County Historical Society and Skiff Auxiliary. Dorothy loved to travel and had been all over the world.

She also enjoyed dogs, reading, square dancing, classical music, and riding roller coasters and thrill rides at Amusement Parks. Those left to honor Dorothy’s memory are her step-daughter, Nancy Hassebroek of Buffalo Center; her step-daughter-in-law, Marilyn Anderson of Newton; grandchildren, Chris (Jody) Anderson, Jason (Brenda) Anderson, Jeff (Amy) Hassebroek, Daniel (Trisha) Hassebroek, and Jane (Nathan) Nelson; her 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; her niece, Brenda (Raymond) Pierce of Pulaski; great-niece and great-nephew, Angela (Will) Zuill of College Grove, Tennessee and Nicholas (Robyn) Pierce of Grove City, Ohio and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd in 2001; step-sons, Raymond Anderson and Lloyd Eugene Anderson; her brother, John N. (Evelyn) Mason, Jr.; and niece, Pat Mason-Hill.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers at Newton Village and Nelson Manor for the excellent care they gave to Dorothy.
