Southbridge/Grassy Creek, North Carolina… M. Dorothy “Dot” (Cardrant) Burzycki, a former longtime resident of Southbridge, died on September 21st. It was a sad, but happy day leaving this world and her battle with Alzheimer’s, and moved on to a much greater place. Now she is seeing family and friends, playing all the bingo she wants ( and of course always winning) and dancing wild polkas with the angels.

She was a very kind, loving and generous woman and will be missed deeply. Dot leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Danny O’Day with whom she lived for the last 11 years in North Carolina. Besides Donna and Danny she leaves several nieces and nephews and many friends of all ages.

While living in North Carolina, she had three special friends who later helped care for her. Many thanks to Judy Boyd, Holly Boyd and Pam Jason. She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1968.

She was predeceased by her sisters Terry Ford, Rita Macuga, and Albina Provost, and her brothers Jerry Cardrant, Rudy Cardrant, Rene Cardrant, Coco Cardrant, Del Cardrant, and Joe Cardrant. Dot was born in Southbridge, October 11, 1923, daughter of Joseph and Alma (Dionne) Cardrant. Dot was a longtime member of the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Southbridge where she was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne Sodality.

As a military family, Dot had the opportunity to live in Virginia, Texas, Alaska, Kentucky, and Germany. Also, after my dad retired from the service, they returned to Southbridge, she went back to the American Optical Co. where she started working at the age of 15 years old, and retired about 1974. She later became a caregiver for many senior citizens who could not get out to do their errands.

When Dot made it to 90 years old she was proud of the fact she was now the oldest child in her family. The family would also like to thank Medi Home Health and Hospice of West Jefferson, NC for all of the wonderful and compassionate care they gave my mother. They were always there when needed and kept me informed.

They are a group of extremely dedicated people and I appreciated them. I will always be grateful to them for helping us. A graveside service at 11:30AM, will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2018, at Old Notre Dame Cemetery, Charlton Street, Southbridge, MA 01550.

At the family’s request, please omit flowers. A donation in Dot’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 500 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905 would be gratefully appreciated. Sansoucy Funeral Home, 40 Marcy Street, Southbridge is directing the arrangements.
