Douglas C. Stewart, 81, departed this life to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, October 30th, 2018, at the Manor House, Seaford. Doug was born in Boston, Massachusetts to the late Edward Amherst and Mary Dudzik Stewart. Doug and his wife Mary moved to Seaford in 1995.

He worked as a civil engineer for Sus County until his retirements in 2009. Prior to moving to Seaford, he was employed as an engineer by Killam Associates in Millburn, N.J. Doug was also a licensed counselor and helped many people in both a professional and volunteer capacity. At the Manor House, he founded the Parkinson’s support group, which continues in an expanded capacity today.

As a young man, Doug worked several summers in Idaho as a crew member for the U.S. Forest Service Blister Rust Control Program, an experience of which he always spoke fondly. He also served his country for two years in the U.S. Army. Always a great lover of the outdoors, Doug volunteered in his later years as a Trail Stewart at Trap Pond State Park.

Though never one to toot his own horn, he had been known to play the kazoo. Over the years his rich creative side manifested itself in music, poetry, sketching, and wood burning, among other artistic pursuits. Doug is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary (Henry) Stewart; three children, Timothy Stewart and his wife Jeanne of Briarcliff Manor, N.Y., Anne Steele and her husband Matthew of Church Hill, MD.

, and Sean Stewart and his wife Megan Lewis of Baltimore, MD. , and a brother, Gregory Stewart of Connecticut. A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, November 10th at the Manor House, 1001 Middleford Rd, Seaford.
