Obituary for Douglas Charles Highfield Douglas Charles Highfield, age 78, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, May 1, 2018. He was born in Flin Flon, Manitoba, Canada to Charles William and Regina (Berbeck) Highfield on September 17, 1939. Douglas was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many.

He enjoyed cooking, photography and reading, particularly biographies and business books. Though he left school in the ninth grade to work on a farm, he always had a thirst for knowledge. Once he achieved his carpenter’s accreditation and earned his high school degree via correspondence, he married Donna and earned his Bachelors of Architecture degree at OU in Norman, Oklahoma.

After working in commercial architecture, he left to start his own business building plexiglas frames in the garage of their home in Irving. This love for creating grew into a 45+ year business in the picture framing industry called Art Enhancement, Inc. and a plexiglas specialty company called Plex Appeal, Inc He was a leader in the industry as a member of PPFA, Professional Picture Framing Association, active in the North Texas Chapter as well as serving as National President of the organization.

He concentrated his efforts in educating members on the framing and preservation of fine art by teaching many classes and chairing several educational seminars. He never stopped learning and sharing. Though he was proud of the businesses that he and Donna had built, his proudest accomplishment was his love for Donna, who he fondly called Kitten, and their two children and two grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by both of his parents. Left to cherish his memory is his spouse of 55 years Donna Highfield; brother Richard Highfield and spouse Lorna of British Columbia, Canada; sister Dianne Foote and spouse Wilbert of Manitoba, Canada; half-brother Lavern Highfield and spouse Shirley of Manitoba, Canada; daughter Susan Highfield and spouse Laura of Round Rock, Texas; daughter Tiffany Highfield-Elrod and spouse Rob, and their children Danée and Aydan, all of Plano, Texas; brother-in-law Ross Haslam of Alberta, Canada; sister-in-law Myrna Fraser of Alberta, Canada; sister-in-law Lynda Pendle and spouse Brian of Alberta, Canada; and numerous extended family and loving friends.
