Daphne Olive Persico was born on June 1, 1932. She was the second of seven children born to the late Stanley and Olive Persico. As the daughter of a School Principal, or School Master as they were called in those days, she placed a very high value on education.

She gave invaluable service to the field of education in Guyana and New York. She taught at different levels of the school system in Guyana and for a number of years served as principal of North Georgetown Secondary School. As an education administrator, she rose to the rank of Chief Education Officer in the Ministry of Education (Guyana).

Upon retiring, Daphne moved to the United States and continued to work tirelessly in the education field. She was the Guidance Counselor at the Jackie Robinson Middle School in Brooklyn, NY for over 20 years. Even after retiring from Jackie Robinson, she continued to mold young minds.

This she did at the after-school program run by the Church of the Nativity. On April 30, 2019. Daphne fell asleep in death after being ill for a few months.

She is survived by her brothers Richard, Alan (Melva), and Edward (Juanita), her sister Desiree Sheila, nieces and nephews Esther, Deborah, Kathryn, Carolyn, Michelle, Randy, Joel, Alan Jr., Janelle, Dacia and Mandisa, and other close relatives and friends including Tessa, Marilyn.
