Obituary for Dr. Jordon Norman Steele STEELE, JORDON NORMAN, passed away with Alzheimer’s. Born in Chicago, IIIinois. Jordon grew up in Coral Gables and graduated from Coral Gables Elementary, Ponce de Leon High and Coral Gables Senior High School.
He graduated from Emory University and Loyola University, New Orleans, School of Dentistry. He practiced dentistry in Coral Gables for 35 years. Upon graduating from high school he and a friend rode bicycles from Chicago to Miami.
Many thought they would not complete the trip but upon completion of it many could not believe that they did it! He was active in various horticulture organizations for over 60 years; member Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden, Montgomery Botanical Garden, South Florida Orchid Society. Also, he was an active member of Rotary Club of Coral Gables, Coral Gables First United Methodist Church as the volunteer chef for 5 years, and in earlier days an active member of Coral Gables Country Club, Committee of 100 of Miami Beach, Century Club of Coral Gables, Flamingo Dinner Club, Citizens Board of University of Miami, and Miami Dental Study Club.
Jordon wrote the column “The Opinionated Gardner” for Coral Gables Gazette. He also chaired the committee that planned first fireworks display in Coral Gables celebrating the July 4th Bicentennial Year Celebration. Predeceased by parents Dr. Vincent C. Steele and Ethel Steele, brother John Randall Steele.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years. Ruth “Margaret” Steele, daughter Margaret Elizabeth Warnaar, (Son in law David Warnaar), grandsons D.J. Warnaar, and V.J. Warnaar of Key Largo, brother Dr. James Steele of Nashville, nieces and nephews Jane Steele, Judy Steele, John Steele, Jim Steele, Amy and David Steele. Brother in law, Charles R. Earnest of Gainesville, FL, nieces and nephews Charles Earnest, Susan Ellisor, Annette Maloney, James Earnest, Donna Earnest, Carol Berry, David Earnest, Margaret Earnest.
Also over 50 special foreign exchange students including Eric Citrey of France, Noor Engbers Tromm of Netherland, Nicholau Attallah of Brazil, Frank Fischer of Germany, Spiros Basinos of Greece, Reiko and Young Kwon of Kennesaw, Georgia, Nathalia Mosquet of France. Celebration of Life Service at Coral Gables First United Methodist Church 536 Coral Way, Coral Gables on 11:00 AM December 1, 2018. In lieu of flowers, donations appreciated to Coral Gables First United Methodist Church, or your choice.
