OBITUARY E. Al Marcy February 14, 1924 – September 25, 2018 E.A. “Al” Marcy, Jr. was born February 14, 1924 in Syracuse, NY, and passed away September 25, 2018. He was the only child of E.A. Marcy, Sr. and Estella Lee Marcy. Al was preceded in death by Lola Marcy, his wife of 29 years.

He is survived by son, Lee David Marcy, and wife, Collene, daughter, Jackie Larabee, and husband Jay, and daughter, Vicki Thorp, and husband, Russell. He is also survived by Lola’s son, Charles Manning, and wife, Svetlana and Lola’s daughter, Melody Hile, and husband, J.R. Other survivors include three grandsons, Jason Larabee and wife, Andrea, James Larabee and Jonathan Manning and wife, Victoria. Al also has two great granddaughters, Jaden and Heidi.

Al graduated from Onondaga Valley Academy in Syracuse, NY, in the class of 1942. His college at Syracuse University was interrupted by WWII in which he served as a navigator in the Army Air Corps, the precursor of the US Air Force. Al served briefly in the European Theater before being assigned to Will Rogers Field in Oklahoma City, OK, where he assisted in training Chinese pilots for the Pacific Theater.

After completing college, Al joined the Bell Telephone System in New York. He transferred with Bell to Oklahoma City, OK, in 1949 where he served in several marketing management positions. One of his most interesting assignments with Southwestern Bell offered him opportunity to assist the Secret Service and the White House Communication Staff in providing communication requirements for visiting presidents and their family members while they were in the Oklahoma area.

He had the honor and pleasure of meeting with President Johnson, Nixon, Ford and briefly with Carter. Al had previously met President Eisenhower in the Oval Office on. After 35 years of service, Al retired from the Bell System in 1982.

Al actively served as a member of a variety of civic organizations including the Oklahoma City Junior Chamber of Commerce, The Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce and the Northside Kiwannas Club. He was also active with the Telephone Pioneers of America. He assisted with fund drives for the United Way and the YMCA and he participated with the original fund-raising drive for the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.

Al was nominated twice for the Oklahoma City’s Outstanding Young Man award and he hold a Key Man award from the Junior Chamber of Commerce. As a child and through his teen years, Al was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Syracuse, NY. It was during that time he gave his life to Jesus Christ at the age of nine.

After moving to Oklahoma City, Al attended First Christian Church where he serviced as a Deacon and board member. In 1985 Al became a member of Metrochurch in Edmond. It was there that he met and married Lola, the Pastoral Care Pastor.

Together they assisted in a variety of areas. Al put his administrative abilities to work by serving throughout his life. As Al and Lola transitioned to Crossings Community Church, they continued to serve weekly as part of the Prayer Ministry at church and at the medical clinic.
