Earnesteen’s Obituary Earnesteen Elizabeth Rushin, 92, of Poplar Bluff, departed this life on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. Earnesteen was born on Aug.

12, 1926, to the late Maggie Mae (Spencer) & Charles Lafayette Dees in Zalma, Mo. She moved with her family to Poplar Bluff as a small child and has been a lifelong resident. She was of the Christian Faith.

In the late 1940’s, Earnesteen became a Licensed Practical Nurse, working at Doctor’s Hospital, Lucy Lee Hospital and the Poplar Bluff Hospital before semi-retiring in 1970 to be a full-time mother to her son. She was also a co-owner of Rushin-Davis Oil Company in Poplar Bluff until 1981. In 1982, she and her husband purchased a small family owned grocery store in Poplar Bluff and operated Rushin’s Grocery until 1994.

On April 1, 1950, she married Billie D. “Bill” Rushin in Poplar Bluff. He proceeded her in death on Nov. 13, 2001 after more than 51 years of marriage.

Earnesteen enjoyed being very active and staying physically fit, and would often be found walking up to 3 miles a day. She enjoyed cooking, especially large meals for all of her family during holiday’s and special occasions. When a friend, family member or sometimes a stranger was in need, she would be the first to offer any help that she possibly could.

Surviving are two children, Phyllis Kay Davis (Gary) and Charles “Chuck” Robert Rushin, both of Poplar Bluff. Her brother, Amos Dees (LaVon) of Indianapolis, Indiana. Two grandchildren, Gary (Skeet) James Davis, Julia LaRae Prater (Justin) and Noah Davis; a great-grandson, Jonathan Davis, and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

In addition, Earnesteen was proceeded in death by three brothers and a sister. Visitation for the public will begin at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at Cotrell Funeral Chapel.

The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel with the Rev. Todd Williams officiating and the Rev. Amos Dees assisting.

A private internment for the family will be at Black Creek Cemetery in Poplar Bluff. Cotrell funeral Service is honored to serve the family of Earnesteen E. Rushin.
