Edgar’s Obituary Big Rapids – Edgar P. “Ed” Jensen, 91, of Big Rapids, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2019 surrounded by family. He was born June 7, 1927 in Norwich Township, Newaygo County, the son of Charles and Isabel (Tornblom) Jensen, and lived in the Big Rapids area his entire life. As a child, Ed attended the Van Gilder schoolhouse and graduated in 1945 from Big Rapids High School.

On August 16, 1947 he married Beverly Davidson. In 1949, Ed and Bev opened Jensen’s Garage in Big Rapids, which they operated until retiring in 1991. Ed was a lifelong member of the Big Rapids First United Methodist Church.

An avid car enthusiast, he enjoyed many years at the Buckley Old Engine Show and traveling the country to car shows. Ed is survived by his wife Bev; daughter Karen (Joel) Wortley of Grand Ledge; son Rich (Ellen) Jensen of Big Rapids; 4 grandchildren: Jessi (Ari) Adler, Jeff (Amanda) Wortley, Adam and Elizabeth Jensen; 4 great-grandchildren: Abigail and Jensen Wortley, Lainee and Kenzie Adler; brother Pete of Big Rapids; and several nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by sisters Judith Gilchrist and Alice Fitzgerald, and sister-in-law Judy Jensen.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 9, 2019 at the Big Rapids First United Methodist Church, with Pastor Rebecca Morrison officiating. Spring burial will be in the West Cemetery in Green Township. Ed’s family will greet friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 8, at Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, and after 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church.

Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Big Rapids First United Methodist Church or Munson Healthcare Hospice, 1150 Medical Campus Drive, Traverse City MI 49684.
