George June 09, 1916 – March 06, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card On Wednesday, March 6, 2019, Edith George entered into eternal peace at the age of 102. Edith was born on June 9, 1916 in Rome, New York the daughter of John and Caroline Thomas McCarthy. On August 23, 1940 she married William A. George in St. Mary’s Rectory.

Edith and William were married for 60 years. Edith was a stay at home mother. She loved to knit, read, and enjoyed family get togethers.

Edith volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was a den mother for the cub scouts. Edith was a member of the Home Bureau and the First Presbyterian Church where she participated in various church functions. Edith was preceded in death by her loving husband William and sisters Thelma and Marian.

She is survived by two sons and their wives, William and Bonnie and John and Kathy; grandsons, Bob and his wife Michelle and Tim and his wife Shelby; granddaughters, Debbie Modlesky and her husband Chris, Diane Jock and her husband Rich, Tracy Guiliano and Jaclyn Mattacola and Mike Deraway; great grandchildren, Brett and Caitlin George, Chase and Kaley Modlesky, Richard and Ryan Jock, Annika and Alexander Guiliano, Massimo and Nico Mattacola, Sam George and Olivia Deraway; a special nephew Ron Phelps and his wife Cindy; special nieces, Judy Williams and Kris Glidewell; and several nieces and nephews. A very special thank you to the staff at Bethany Gardens and The Terrace at Woodlands. Funeral services will be held 12 pm Monday at the First Presbyterian Church, Rome.

Interment will be in Rome Cemetery. No calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to The First Presbyterian Church, 108 W. Court St. Rome, NY 13440.
