Edith Lowery, 96 of Alanson passed away at her niece’s home surrounded by family. Edith was born on April 4, 1922 in Warley, England, the daughter of Thomas Goode and Edith (Jackson) Goode. She grew up in Warley and attended school there as well.

She had been employed by the Cadbury Chocolate Company and during WWII was involved with the Woman’s Land Army in England. On April 5, 1947 she married Oliver Lowery in Harbor Springs. The couple made their home in Alanson until 1949 when they moved to the Detroit area settling in royal Oak in 1950.

In 1957 the Lowery family moved to Troy. Edith was employed as a medical technician for private practice physicians in the Detroit area. She was also an assistant at the Clawson, MI public library for several years.

In 1979 the couple moved to Grayling where she was a volunteer at the Grayling area hospice and the Hospice of Little Traverse Bay. After that the couple then relocated to Alanson. In 1990, she was a volunteer at the Alanson Library and Alanson School.

Her husband Oliver preceded her in death in July of 1994. Edith’s hobbies included reading and knitting. She was a member of the Alanson Library Board, the Alanson Area Woman’s Club, and the United Church of Christ in Brutus.

Edith is survived by her children Sharon Kay (David) Pearson and Dennis P. Lowery, grandchildren Richard Schefke and Brian R. Schefke, great grandchild Jessica R. Schefke, sister Dorothy Goode, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Oliver, Edith was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Edith Goode, her son Christopher J. Lowery, and her brother Joseph A. Goode. A memorial service for Edith will take place at Zion Christian Fellowship Church in Brutus on September 22, 2018.

Visitation will be from 12:30pm-1:30pm, with a memorial service at 1:30pm. A luncheon will follow the service. Anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in memory of Edith should consider McLaren Home Care & Hospice/Hospice of the Straits.
